Hot-wire type volatile organic compound sensor (VOC sensor)
The MR516 gas sensing element operates on the principle that gas adsorption on the surface of a metal oxide semiconductor causes changes in thermal and electrical conductivity, with the gas concentration determined by the change in resistance of a platinum coil. The MR516 consists of a detection element and a compensation element paired to form two arms of a Wheatstone bridge. When exposed to organic vapors, the resistance of the detection element decreases, causing a change in the bridge output voltage, which increases proportionally with gas concentration. The compensation element serves as a reference and provides temperature compensation.
