It has two Hall effect sensors: one detects speed, the other detects the direction of gear movement. The output is an open collector transistor. Each Hall effect sensor provides a square wave pulse for each gear tooth. When the leading edge of a gear tooth is sensed, the speed output goes low (on), and when the trailing edge of the gear tooth contacts the standard target, the speed output goes high (off).When the leading edge of a gear tooth is sensed, the direction output goes low (on), and when the trailing edge of the gear tooth is sensed, the direction output goes high (off).
