The oxygen sensor uses two zirconia discs with a sealed space between them. One disc functions as a reversible oxygen pump, alternately filling the sample gas and evacuating this small space. The other disc is used to measure the oxygen partial pressure difference ratio, yielding the corresponding sensing voltage.
