About Silicon Carbide (SiC):
SiC has extremely special advantages: it can withstand high-intensity radiation, is almost insensitive to visible light, has low dark current, and fast response speed. These characteristics make SiC an excellent material for making semiconductor UV detectors that can suppress visible light. SiC detectors can operate for long periods at temperatures up to 170°C, have a low temperature coefficient (<0.1%/K) and low noise, and can effectively monitor very low radiation intensities (with appropriate amplifiers).
