UV-Arc is a waterproof sensor with a threaded body (G3/4") that will be used on trains to measure the intensity and length of the arc span according to EN 50317. This indicates the quality of contact between the pantograph and the catenary and allows locating defects on the wire within the rail network. The UV-Arc sensor is configured for this specific application. It contains a highly sensitive photodiode and an additional filter to suppress sensitivity to solar UVB. The time constant is adjusted to typical arc lengths, and the metal housing provides high electromagnetic compatibility safety.
