Product Introduction

Portable Ferromagnetic Wear Debris Measuring InstrumentSKA JPL-5The main modes of mechanical equipment failure include wear, corrosion, and fracture, among which wear failure accounts for as high as 60%-80% of the impact on mechanical equipment faults. Lubricating oil is the blood of mechanical equipment, playing roles such as sealing, lubrication, cleaning, cooling, and anti-corrosion in mechanical equipment. Lubricating oil contains mechanical wear information, namely the friction and wear characteristics of the friction pair surface materials. Through monitoring of lubricating oil, both the contamination of the lubricating oil itself can be detected and the wear state of the machine can be analyzed. The concentration of ferromagnetic particles in lubricating oil is one of the direct indicators of the degree of wear of the controlled equipment. Through daily analysis of ferromagnetic particle concentration in in-use oil, the degree of abnormal wear of equipment can be quickly identified, avoiding unplanned shutdowns.

In terms of detection methods, current iron content detection mainly includes atomic absorption spectrometry and atomic emission spectrometry. Although the atomic absorption spectrometry method is accurate, it is slow and complex to operate. The atomic emission spectrometry method is widely used, but it cannot effectively detect large wear particles (whether rotating disk electrode or inductively coupled plasma). It is insensitive to large particles, which can sometimes be fatal in monitoring and diagnosis, because particles from normal wear of friction pairs are generally <10μm, while metal particles >15μm are generated due to abnormal wear.

Main Application Areas

  • Predictive Maintenance — Monitor ferromagnetic wear debris in lubricating oil to detect early signs of machinery wear and prevent unexpected failures.
  • Industrial Machinery Monitoring — Assess the condition of gears, bearings, and hydraulic systems by measuring wear particle concentration in lubricants.
  • Oil Analysis Laboratories — Perform ASTM D8120-compliant testing of lubricating oils and greases for accurate ferromagnetic particle quantification.
  • Power Plant Equipment — Track wear debris in turbines, compressors, and pumps to ensure reliable operation and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Marine and Off-Shore — Monitor lubricant condition in engines and hydraulic systems to reduce downtime and maintenance costs in harsh environments.
